FORMER governor and Cagayan de Oro mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Emano died this week, marking the end of another chapter in local politics. We just saw history happen.
What can I say? Dongkoy was a charismatic speaker who developed his own art of politics and mastered it, and he knew the political terrain in this part of the country like the palm of his hand. He was the politician’s politician, a traditional politician par excellence, who waged his political battle until his last breath.
Condolences to Gov. Bambi Emano and the rest of the Emano family.
I cannot imagine the mixed emotions and anxiety the governor must be going through right now given the loss of his father at a time when his hands are full because of Monday’s elections. I mean, here is a man who would be bringing his father to his final resting place at a time when he is leading a political army to battle. Even if Bambi wins a reelection, he would still find himself grieving next week.

MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano emerged dominant in his bid for a third and last office term but he and his family’s political grip in the province and the city weakened, results of Monday’s elections show.
As of yesterday morning, results show Emano defeating former vice governor Julio Uy of the National Unity Party (NUP) by a wide margin and his Padayon Pilipino ticket winning most of the seats in the provincial board.

But the Emanos have lost their political bailiwick, the 2nd District town of Tagoloan, ending the family’s four-decade reign in the vote-rich municipality. MISAMIS Oriental 2nd District Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano officially opened his congressional office in Balay Ninotchka in Tagoloan today.
Present during the blessing and ribbon cutting were Gov. Peter Unabja, Vice Gov. Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez, Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan, Cagayan de Oro City Councilors Yevonna Yacine Emano, Aga Suan, Ian Achas, and other provincial government agencies.
Balay Ninotchka was built in and named after Emano’s sister Ninotchka Emano who passed away in Balay Nenotchka used to be called ‘Payag’ in Tagoloan and has served as an office of the Emanos in serving the people of Tagoloan. It now serves as Emano’s congressional office.
Emano’s district office will be headed by Janna Pearl Cañon.
Emano promised to work hard and find funds to get projects and services for the 2nd District of Misamis Oriental.
“In the national offices, they talk of billions and how I hope we will be able to access to all of those funds,” Emano said adding that he would want to pour these funds into Misamis Oriental.
