Né dans une famille musicale d’un village aussi rural et aussi vierge de technologie moderne que dans le film Les dieux sont tombés sur la tête  (The Gods Must Be Crazy), Njacko, comme tous les enfants de là-bas, apprenait à construire et à jouer des instruments à l’âge de trois ans en observant les adultes. Mais quand Njacko avait juste sept ans, ses parents ont divorcé, un acte scandaleux par rapport aux normes morales de l’époque. Ignoré par les autres enfants et adulé par sa grande mère, il est parti vivre avec cette grand-mère qui a encouragé son amour de la musique et l’a présenté aux anciens du village qui lui ont enseigné à jouer le tamtam (toumkak), le kalimba (piano à pouce) et la harpe africaine (zaa koua).

Passionnément curieux du monde au-delà du village, Njacko est parti du Cameroun à l’âge de 17 ans pour adopter une vie de musicien nomade en Afrique de l’Ouest,  contribuant à la scène musicale robuste des restaurants et des clubs du Nigéria, Benin, Togo, Ngana, Côte d’Ivoire , Burkina Faso , Mali , Niger et le Sénégal absorbant ainsi les influences de toute la région.
