According to the police, Pujari even featured in local newspapers for his charitable work.
In India, Pujari has over criminal cases against him, including of murder, extortion and other crimes.
Who is Ravi Pujari and how was he arrested?
Pujari was first traced to Burkina Faso and then to Senegal. He was finally detained at a barber’s shop in Senegals Dakar by the local police. Indian authorities were informed of the detention on January 21 last year, along with a request for documents to facilitate his extradition.

Underworld gangster Ravi Pujari, who remained a fugitive for over 15 years, was brought to Bengaluru in the early hours of Monday morning by the Karnataka police. With over cases and 13 red corner notices against him, Ravi Pujari had remained elusive until the Karnataka Police tracked him down in South Africa.
A team of investigators, headed by Amar Kumar Pandey, brought Pujari back to Bengaluru on Monday. Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG and IGP) Praveen Sood said that he would be produced before the court soon. Ravi Pujari was arrested by the Senegal Police on January 19, after intimation from their Indian counterparts.
Pujari was living in Senegal under the alias Anthony Fernandez and tried to convince the Supreme Court of Senegal that he is not the gangster the police claim him to be. However, on February 19, the court ruled in favour of the Karnataka police and allowed Ravi Pujari’s extradition to India.

Living under a false name of Anthony Fernandez, his attempts to become a 'social worker' ended gangster Ravi Pujari’s 26 years long run from the law. Pujari, who is wanted in 97 cases, including 12 cases of murder, was extradited to India from Senegal on 23 February.
Pujari, who was once part of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang and a close associate of Chotta Rajan, was arrested while getting his hair coloured at a local barbershop in Senegal on 19 January.

Pujari has been sent to 14 days of police custody.
