Known as the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson was a best-selling American singer, songwriter, and dancer. As a child, Jackson became the lead singer of his family’s popular Motown group, the Jackson 5. He went on to a solo career of astonishing worldwide success, delivering No. 1 hits from the albums Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. Thriller remains one of the best-selling albums in history. In his later years, Jackson was dogged by allegations of child molestation. The time Grammy Award winner died in at age 50 of a drug overdose just before launching a comeback tour.

life in Fort Greene Projects. And believe it or not -- you can't imagine at theage of five I remember being involved in a gang fight with some -- some -- somekids around the corner. We lived on Monument Walk. And I -- I had the audacityto go around the corner. Some -- some little guys, they got me and kind of, youknow, beat me up a little bit. Can you imagine? Five years old? Because I wasaround -- I was around the corner, you know, out -- you know, out of the -- youknow, out of my territory. Siraj Wahhaj was born in in Fort Greene. He joined the Nation of Islam in and became the imam of Masjid Muhammad 7C in Bedford-Stuyvesant in He studied with the Muslim World League in Chicago and at Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. He founded Masjid At-Taqwa in ; the following year, he purchased a building in Bedford-Stuyvesant to house the mosque. As the imam of Masjid At-Taqwa, Wahhaj coordinated successful efforts to reduce crime in the area, especially through anti-drug patrols in , and by emphasizing significant community outreach. He was the first Muslim to give an opening prayer for the United States House of Representatives, in ; in , he founded the Muslim Alliance in North America to advocate for Muslim American&#;s needs and civil rights. Wahhaj also served on the city&#;s Majlis Ash-Shura Islamic Leadership Council of New York, campaigned for New York City public schools to formally recognize Eid holidays, and represented Masjid At-Taqwa in the Raza v.
