Excise Commissioner &#; DGP Sri. Rishiraj Singh IPS, and Additional Excise Commissioner Sri. A. Vijayan IPS, who have been transferred from Excise Department, after a long period of service, were given farewell by the personnel of Excise Department.

Sri. Rishraj Singh IPS, being the Excise Commissioner for the past three years, brought the Department to new heights and given a new identity and diversity in the activities of the Department. During his tenure, there is a drastic improvement in the enforcement activities of Department, and he lead the awareness programmes against drug menace. Also his leadership in modernization given a facelift to the Department. He is transferred and posted as Director General of Police (Prisons).

Sri. A. Vijayan IPS, have served Excise Department for more than 6 years, initially as Vigilance Officer (Excise) and then as Additional Excise Commissioner (Enforcement). During his tenure, he extent his best efforts to the Department, not only in his delegated duties, but also in all the activities of the Department and to the welfare of the employees. He is transferred and posted as Principal, Police Training College.

Thiruvananthapuram: Jail DGP Rishiraj Singh will retire from service on Saturday. The IPS officer made headlines in Kerala for his efforts to curb irregularities in check posts by disguising as cleaner in a lorry and playing a major role in encouraging Keralites to use helmets and seat belts.

The farewell parade was held on Friday due to the complete lockdown on Saturday. Singh was accompanied by his wife Durgeshwari Singh. Rishiraj Singh, a native of Rajasthan, said he would continue to stay in Thiruvananthapuram after retirement and would write a book on the steps to be taken for the renovation of the jail.

He wrote several articles against the use of intoxicants among children based on information obtained during his tenure as Excise Commissioner. Awareness programs were also organized. He also published a book, &#;Vaikum Munpe&#;.A batch IPS officer, Singh started his service as Punalur ASP. The goon hunt in Kochi and Kozhikode during his tenure as commissioner were notable. As transport commissioner, seat-belts and helmets were made mandatory to reduce road deaths.

While he was the Chief Vigilance Officer of KSEB, he found that Rs crore worth of electricity were stolen by big companies and individuals. 38 lakh counterfeit CDs and Rs 3, crore worth of drugs were seized during his tenure as the Excise Commissioner.
