For a B-movie dismissed by most critics in as a quickie exploitation picture, High School Confidential!went through an extraordinary number of screenplay drafts before the cameras started rolling. Over the course of too many versions to count, there were subtle and not-so-subtle changes in the story's plot, tone and character. Eventually, four different writers worked on the script. The part that would give Phillipa Fallonas writer Barry Alphonsolater put ither one shot at screen immortality was not even present in the earliest versions of the treatments and scripts.

But with her career cut down at its height, and with the bulk of her short but vibrant work relegated to the theatre, we are left with a smattering of film and television performances that give only partial clues to her talents. Like most actors of her ilk, unless you saw someone like Diana Sands on stage, you only saw part of what made her so special.
