Lázaro Cárdenas del Río was a politician and military man who held the presidency of Mexico between and He was born on May 21, in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, into a very modest family. He was one of the most loved and remembered presidents of the Mexican nation.
After joining the Mexican Revolution, he had a vertiginous rise within the army and politics of the country, occupying important positions. Among them those of the Governor of Michoacán, Minister of the Interior and Minister of War.
Cárdenas was a defender of democracy and the modernization of the Mexican state. He promoted education at all levels and created schools and educational institutions throughout the country. During his government the creation of trade union organizations was stimulated.
Likewise, he promoted agrarian reform like no other and carried out the expropriation and nationalization of the railway industry in and the oil industry in He defended human rights inside and outside of Mexico and the rights of workers and peasants.
Lázaro Cárdenas died in Mexico City, a victim of cancer, on October 19,

Militar revolucionario, político y 51° presidente de México. Desempeñó la presidencia por el sexenio comprendido entre el 1 de diciembre de al 30 de noviembre de Nació el 21 de mayo de en Jiquilpan de Juárez, Estado de Michoacán. Murió a la edad de 75 años, el 19 de octubre de en Ciudad de México.
Fue el mayor de 8 hermanos nacidos en el seno de una familia sencilla de clase media. Labró el campo desde pequeño y sólo cursó hasta el cuarto grado de primaria. Se destacó por tener buena caligrafía, cualidad que le permitió ingresar a la Oficina de Rentas de Jiquilpan, en la Secretaría de la Prefectura y luego laborar como tipógrafo.
En , tras el estallido de la revolución mexicana, se incorporó a las fuerzas revolucionarias como capitán a cargo de la correspondencia. Combatió bajo el mando de generales zapatistas, villistas y carrancistas. Acompañó al general Obregón en Teoloyucan, donde presenció la rendición del Ejército Federal.
En al dividirse las facciones rebeldes, se mantuvo del lado constitucionalista y peleó bajo las órdenes del General Plutarco Elías Calles contra los convencionist
Hijo de don Dámaso Cárdenas Pinedo, de ocupación tendero, y de doña Felícitas del Río Amezcua, nació el 21 de mayo de en la calle de San Francisco, en el barrio de la Puentecita de Jiquilpan de Juárez, Michoacán. En su tierra natal cursó hasta el cuarto año de educación primaria, únicos estudios formales que realizó hasta los once años.
Desde pequeño ayudó a su abuelo –que había luchado contra los franceses- a cultivar su “écuaro” por lo que tuvo contacto con los indígenas y los abusos de los terratenientes. En ingresó como “meritorio” en la mesa segunda de la Oficina de Rentas de Jiquilpan, donde empezó a desarrollar una caligrafía impecable. En , con la muerte de su padre, asumió la responsabilidad de ser el jefe de su familia. Lázaro Cárdenas del Río (b. 21 May ; d. 19 October ), president of Mexico, – Born in the small provincial town of Jiquilpán, in the western state of Michoacán, Mexico, Cárdenas was the oldest son of a shopkeeper. He left school after the fourth grade and worked as a clerk in the local tax office. Following his father's death in , Cárdenas, a quiet, serious, conscientious youth, became a surrogate parent for his many siblings; several of his brothers emulated him by pursuing careers in the military and politics. A fierce patriotism nurtured by the liberal school curriculum and a hungry though unfocused ambition lurked behind Cárdenas's stolid mien, and in , three years after the Mexican Revolution broke out, the eighteen-year-old enlisted with rebels resisting the military regime of Victoriano Huerta. After initial setbacks (he was captured in , escaped, and had to lie low in Guadalajara for some months), Cárdenas began a rapid rise through the ranks, helped by the friendship and patronage of his commanding general, Plutarco Elías Calles.
